How would you feel if you got something special to take care of? Well I felt excited because it was my first time growing something in tissue and in a snap lock bag. I do have a garden at home we bought seedlings and not seeds.
I hypothesise that my seed wouldn't grow because I thought seeds need soil to grow.
Fiona talked us through what we needed to do in order to take care of it.
Fiona gave us an observation sheet to glue in our book.
I got my bean from Fiona.
I wanted a Petri dish but, I missed out. So, I got a snap lock bag.
Folded a tissue.
Dampened a tissue.
I watered my bean.
Gave it to Fiona.
On 9-8-2016 / Tuesday 8 of August I observed my bean for the first time and noticed the followings : I measured my bean and it was 15 m.m. long. The colour was broken white ( white but slightly yellowish ). It was smooth to touch. It was a shape of a long and fat oval. It doesn't have leaves yet.
On 15-8-2016 / Monday 15 of August I observed my bean for the second time and I noticed the followings : I measured it and it was 16 m.m. long. It was a yellowish and whitish colour. It was crinkly to touch. It was an uneven oval. It still had no leaves. My inference was that the skin was starting to peel. My evidence is that the bean has too much food inside it that the skin is peeling.
On 18-8-2016 / Thursday 18 of August I observed my bean for the third time and I noticed the followings : I measured it and it was 2 c.m. long. It was a cream colour. It was smooth to touch. It was a long and fat oval. It still has no leaves. My tissue is starting to mold. My inference is it has too much water. My evidence it’s been wet for over 2 weeks.
On 29-8-2016 / Monday 29 of August I observed my bean for the fourth time and I noticed the followings : I measured my bean and it was 2 c.m. long. It was dark yellow. It was smooth to touch. It was a long and fat oval. It still has no leaves. My inference is it’s dead. My evidence is it’s dark yellow and it hasn't grown since the 18th August.
On 7-9-2016 / Wednesday 7 September I observed by bean for the last time and I observed the followings : I measured it and it was 2.2 c.m. long. It was more of a rotten brown colour. It was like touching wet food leftovers. It was looked like a jelly bean that was cut in half. Still has no leaves. My inference is that it's dead. My evidence is it has split up.
After conducting this careful observation of my bean I learnt that plants don't need soil to germinate. I learnt the meaning of germination. Beans in petri dishes are more successful than ones in snap lock bags. My inference is that the ones in the bag are didn't grow that well because it was snap shut and the ones in the petri dishes has a gap for air to go through. My evidence is our class did a survey (only the people that were in the room at the moment) :
15 : beans died and were in bags.
9 : beans lived and were in bags.
12 : beans lived and were in petri dishes.
3 : beans died and were in petri dishes.
